Louisville Slugger Youth Select 725 Maple Wood Bat is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Wood My daughter used a Louisville Youth M9 (discontinued) for all non-game, yet still hardball practicing. Finally, one of the two cracked, but didn't shatter, so I sought out something similar. Found this bat and now it's also discontinued! What a shame. We bought two, so we now have 3 good maple bats which I also use for hitting infield. My daughter said the new bats are a little lighter, but I couldn't tell a difference. The grain is pretty tight and though it's a cupped ended wood bat, it's not overly barrel heavy. It's pretty balanced. I enjoy the smooth handle finish as well as the thin taper of the handle. But, we put an orange Lizard Skin on one of them to match her team colors. Our practice consists of several things, but for this particular bat it's 40 swings from a tee with a standard baseball and another 40 swings with a machine pitch between 50-60 mph (we vary the speed daily). All this is 4x a week and sometimes another 40 or swings at the park. She's learned to keep her label in check so that she doesn't hit on that or the back side of the bat. The previous bats held up great and so far these ones are just as good. I'm a little disappointed they're discontinued. Louisville came out with another maple youth bat, but it boasts a bigger barrel which makes me think "end loaded" and red/white/blue colored lettering (costly). They could be good too, but I'm much happier with the price and looks of this model. I know graphics & colors sell, but I'm happy with a good quality, balanced, dense maple bat that lasts instead of "fancy stuff". :)
